India is a difficult place to travel, and for women travelling alone may be much more difficult. Should a woman travel alone in India? I discuss why, in my opinion, India is a fantastic place to go to as well as some tips for being a savvy female traveller there.
Here are a few tips for you ladies to keep in mind while you travel alone as a solo traveller in India,
1. Start off by merely visiting neighbouring locations, and only after gaining some expertise should you consider organising a solo trip to a location that is rather far.
2. Depending on where you are going, choose proper clothing.
3. Many people are able to sense fear and weakness, so walk with confidence.
4. Be prepared to spend a little more on lodging due to safety concerns.
5. Avoid keeping all of your money in one location. Take only what you believe you will need for the day's adventure, and divide it up into bags or purses.
6. Never put your luggage in the back of a crowded space, such as a bazaar or a tube car, and never put your phone in your pocket. Place it inside the bag as well.
7. The most essential thing is to think. Don't be too vicarious too soon, and only go on journeys you are confident you can manage alone.
8. Obviously, we all enjoy a good party but don't overindulge to the point that you can't even stand upright. Always have fun in moderation and be aware of your surroundings.
9. Take only what you need in a compact backpack rather than large luggage since you won't be able to escape if you get into difficulties carrying the weight. Leave all of your valuables in your hotel room as well.
10. Be around females. Choose an all-female hostel or dorm, the seat next to a woman on the bus or in any other form of public transportation, and join a group of women only on social media, particularly if the members know where you are going.
