Lithium the metal to fuel India's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' mission?
A geological survey of India has found lithium reserves of 5.9 million terms in the Reasi district of Jammu Kashmir. The silver-colored metal has been the prime focus of the global economies to boost their development and switch to a more sustainable and eco-friendly option.
India currently depends on Australia, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina for lithium imports and 70% on China for lithium cell batteries. With the discovery of lithium deposits, India is now ranked fifth in the lithium reserves.
Lithium is used in making batteries for smartphones laptops electronic vehicles etc and is durable, eco-friendly, and lightweight due to which it has a growing demand in the world market.
